i don't usually do beauty posts but i just thought i would do a little post of the beauty products i couldn't live without.

urban decay big fatty mascara, of course. it's the only mascara i've touched in years.

i love this cute beauty brand called love and toast. their packaging is adorable and like urban decay, they don't use animal testing which is a must for me. my favorite products of theirs are the lip balm pots, roller ball perfume and lotion.

and i'm completely addicted to the american apparel nail polishes. they have great colors and they are some of the best polishes i've found for the best price.

had a great thanksgiving in durham. my family goes to the largest vegetarian thanksgiving in the country and it is the most delicious food you can imagine. also grabbed a fun garage show in town while i was home, mannequin men and cheap time.

there were window installations set up in store fronts in the downtown so i took a few snaps on my digital.

saw architecture in helsinki last night at oberlin. i couldn't really imagine a better night. as you can see i got a little carried away taking polaroids but they were so aussie and amazing i couldn't help myself. and as you can also see, i met cameron and kellie and we talked about art school. cameron studied photography at university and kellie had friends at Alfred for ceramics. they were the most beautiful lovely people. the first shot was of dom, another really sweet band who opened for architecture.

also last weekend i went to a carnival called "better in mentor." it was pretty great. i think the girls and i must have looked like lunatics though because we were just running frantically around snapping zillions of pictures that we needed for school. but i'm super happy with the images i got... i will be using them for my photo transfer process onto ceramics. it's a pretty complex process and it has its faults but i'll be sure to show you how it turns out!

took a zillion pictures at ingenuity last night... a festival in cleveland held under the detroit superior bridge. it is such a cool space to explore. it feels so other worldly.

plus they have super fun activities like a doodle bar.

and a gummy worm bar.

and lots of really great installation and performance art.

and carnival food.

plus my good friend's band Me played. they play fast rock and roll and we did the twist.

sorry i've been so m.i.a. school has started and it's totally mad and plus i have dear olive taking up most of my free time. but i just saw Submarine and thought it was fantastic. i love all the signiture clothes each of the characters have. and the sound track is pretty great.

here's my big news! i just brought this little bundle of joy home from the APL Cleveland two days ago and we are in love.

her name is olive and she's 6 months old.

she hates being photographed... this picture reminds me of a people picture when your eyes are like half open and half closed!

saw peter bjorn and john tonight. it was pretty much swoon, swoon, a little more swoon and some seriously amazing rock and roll. peter admitted that their goal was to get into the rock and role hall of fame... relevant because we are in cleveland. i think they are on the right track. they are such great musicians and absolutely incredible performers. unfortunately my polaroids didn't come out too great but they aren't terrible.

just had a perfectly lovely 24 hour vacation in marblehead/lakeside, ohio. just a little weekday getaway with two of my best ladies. we stopped along the way in another little harbor town and took some pictures.

then we drove past the most magical place and had to take more pictures. it was an over grown green house complex.

it was one of the most magical things i've ever seen. so alice in wonderland.

i took another polaroid there... i really like all the angles in this shot and the smoke stack in the back.

this piece was one of my favorites from last year... i was so happy with how the photographs came out. however, when cleaning out my studio and taking all my work home i was forced to take this piece apart in order to fit it in my little car... so i have re-birthed it as a sort of lattice on my balcony and i just love the outcome! i love the play of ceramic leaves and real leaves.

phew. things have been very busy. within 24 hours i lost power, all my food, got power, and was notified i was finally getting a foster dog to take care of for a week. her name is rhodes and she is absolutely lovely although she is very nervous and things are getting off to a slow start. i'll post some pictures of her soon. she is a hound mix and had puppies recently.

these are taken with my new color shade push film from the impossible project. they didn't come out as bright as i'd hoped but i knew that would happen because of the distance. but this was once my favorite buildings in cleveland. you see it driving in and out of the city across the cuyahoga and they are taring it down to make room for a new bridge or something stupid. there were loads of people gathering around in the flats taking pictures and grumbling about how awful the whole thing is.

supa quick post... this was like the first outing of my summer vacation. cara and i went to an art show in rocky river, oh and stumbled upon the greatest gelato shop ever. i got chocolate... like real dark chocolate, and pink grapefruit. it was real good.

my plans for the summer are still fairly up the air but i'm working on changing that as soon as BFA week is over. for the next three more days i'll be doing nothing but running around listening to all my graduating friends BFA defenses.

my latest series of work. these are pinhole photographs printed on ceramics. it was a pretty crazy process. first i made a pinhole camera out of clay... and then i painted liquid light onto fired ceramic tiles and exposed those tiles in my camera. this is what i got! the sepia color you see are the colorations of the clay itself. this last one is my favorite, the image is so faint and ghostly.

had a music filled weekend in durham. i went home almost specifically to see the raveonettes play at the cats cradle and it was so worth it! i took my last two polaroids there so now it's time to stalk up again. but it was also record store week or day or something like that so i went to my favorite record shop and bought a couple vinyls i've been wanting for ages.

sooo happy about how these came out. the show was really quite the best thing i've seen in a long time. and i got a set list!

last weekend steph took me out to Mesopotamia... not the land between the Tigris and the Euphrates... but amish country in Ohio. it was very cute but VERY cold, like probably the worst day to be outside taking pictures of the whole year. i tried to take a polaroid and it froze.

some images i'm using in a slideshow presentation for one of my classes this semester. it's all about the MATERIAL.

this piece was done by a girl who graduated ahead of me at my high school. i love her work, she paints engobes on paper and layers them in the kiln, the paper burns away and she is left with layer and layers of paper thin clay. it looks like millions of years of rock formation.
this piece is a compositional pot connected with chicle, the stuff chewing gum is made from!all the rest of the images are of andy goldsworthy's work. he is a genius, and there is not much else to be said.

in his movie, rivers and tides, you get to watch this amazing creation float down the river and disconnect

i think his most interesting work is the red paint rocks, he smashes them all up and makes color bombs, throws it in the air, floats it in rivers and small pools. absolutely stunning.

i was in chicago, the windy city for the weekend for SOFA, sculptural object, functional art
of course the exhibition was incredible, so inspiring

as was the bean,

but i wasn't too impressed with the little bit of the city that i got to see. you have to be 21 to do anything at all, and therefore we did a lot of walking outside in the cold and not a lot of being indoors.

but i did get so inspired and had an absolutely lovely time with my girls.
